Aylstock, Witkin, Kreis & Overholtz (AWKO) partner Jennifer Hoekstra discusses her firm’s involvement on major MDLs, including NEC, Talcum powder and hair relaxer. Her other practice areas include defective drugs, defective medical devices, and orthopedic related law and science. Hoekstra remains best known for serving as plaintiff leadership in the bellwether victories during litigation against 3M for defective earplugs, yielding nearly $300 Million in compensatory damages for military veterans. Jennifer also maintained heavy involvement in the success of Genetically Modified Rice, Actos and DePuy Pinnacle Hip MDL bellwethers, resulting in over $11 Billion in total trial verdicts. In early Nov. 2022, AWKO announced a lawsuit against L'Oréal and Softsheen-Carson, asserting their hair relaxers cause uterine cancer. Jennifer currently serves as leadership on the case within the firm.
Hoekstra maintains memberships with the American Bar Association, the Lawyers Association, and Escambia-Santa Rosa County Bar Association. She currently serves as Co-Chair on the American Association for Justice’s Metal on Metal Hip Litigation and formerly served as President of the First Circuit Trial.
